What We’re About
It’s a term my late grandfather used. If you were dressed to the “nine’s,” he would comment: “You look better than a $40 dollar mule.” My grandfather had many quips; he was the social kingpin in many circles. Poppa (my grandfather) was the man who taught me what celebrating laughter meant, so in many ways…this site is guided by him…through me – Nick Bankhead (Co-Mule guy)
Now, what does the this site really mean? This question we will answer together. We really started it to share thoughts, ideas, concepts, cartoons and really anything that we find humorous. We dig laughter and celebrating humor (big ups, Poppa). As we educate our brains with WordPress, SEO and general tech wizardry, we will try to bring smirks, giggles and “huh’s?” to your daily life (We’re just kidding about the SEO crap, we just want to make sure this site is run solid). We say “SEO crap” because of our background.
Nick Bankhead is a copywriter by trade. Matt “Fitty” Fitzpatrick is a designer and tech overlord (it sounds better than “total nerd”) We live in Saint Louis, Missouri and work in advertising. Matt and I realize there is a need for Search Engine Optimization, but it really isn’t our thing. We dig the creative concept and not trying to utilize the word “social media” every six sentences just so google recognizes us. In our opinion, if you used SEO properly; you could manufacture Lady Gaga’s website to pop-up when someone search’s for “Glen Beck’s favorite food.”
This can bring us to social media. We dig it. It’s fun to share and engage consumers, clients, brands…well, pretty much anyone or anything that rides the social train. #hashtag #awesome
Matt and I will be putting “the mule” on Facebook and on Twitter. We think Zuckerberg would get pissed if we didn’t. Tom from MySpace won’t stop calling us about “the mule” page he wants us to create on the new My_____ site (hahaha, I’m sooooo j/k-ing). We’re putting this site on social media networks for one reason only, and that is to share.
40 Dollar Mule will consist of cartoons, written thoughts (our cool way to say “blog”), “If” and “Were” (you’ll understand it soon enough), random miscellaneous impressions and a “mule market;” where we hope to have cool schwag to purchase.
Again, Matt and I look forward to growing with you. We’re always hip to thoughts, opinions and general inquiries. We might not agree with them, but we’ll listen. We recognize snarky people, we’re in advertising for crying out loud. We also realize there are people out among the lands that use the internet to make their miserable life seem somewhat worthy (look at the fuckwads in the Westboro Church).
As I type this in my local, neighborhood watering hole, I realize that Matt and I only want one thing: To have some fun. We will continue to revisit our relationship with you every couple of months to make sure we are building a healthy and desirable alliance…let’s tilt one back to 40 Dollar Mule.
Nick!
P.S.Fitty says hi!
Fitty
From Wikipedia:
Fitty is an American millionaire (later billionaire) playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on crime, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Fitty trains himself both physically and intellectually and dons a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime. Fitty operates in the fictional American Gotham City, assisted by various supporting characters including his crime-fighting partner Robin, his butler Alfred Pennyworth, the police commissionerJim Gordon and occasionally the heroine Batgirl. He fights an assortment of villains such as the Joker, the Penguin, Two-Face, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Unlike most superheroes, he does not possess any superpowers; he makes use of intellect, detective skills, science and technology, wealth, physical prowess, martial arts skills, an indomitable will, fear and intimidation, in his continuous war on crime.
Also, he’s a Digital Art Director, has killed people using only the Pen tool in Illustrator, and is a proud beer snob.
